There was a story of how this person got through college. His sister-in-law who basically disproved of him marrying her sister because she thought he was a lazy bum told him he wasn’t smart enough to finish college so what he did was put a picture of her on his study desk and every time he felt like procrastinating we would look at that picture which reminded him to prove her wrong. I forgot what book I read this from but the author ended up being quite successful.

Think of your life as a major project with a deadline. Every day every week month and year you get the opportunity to either work on improving it piece by piece one section at a time or you can sit back and watch it corrode away.

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper he must hammer a nail into the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks as he learned to control his anger the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Regardless of what your regrets are learn from them and move on. Use your past as a reason to work on a better future instead of letting it drag your future down.

Motivation doesn’t last. If the goal is to take action until it becomes a habit then it’s important to re-motivate yourself so that you can follow through on those actions. In other words you need to resell yourself on why putting in the work and time is worth it.

So whether you’re a teenager or much older do something useful with your spare time if you’re not already doing so. Find a hobby or an enjoyable/useful skill and get good at it.
